The role of a radiation therapist is deeply rewarding, as they are an integral member of the radiation oncology team. Radiati ... on therapists are responsible for patient positioning, operating a linear accelerator, delivering dose, and recording the process with fine attention to detail and a refined aptitude for patient care. Mount Sinai’s Department of Radiation Oncology and Stony Brook University are partnered to provide collaborative radiation therapy education across both campuses. Through this industry-academic partnership, students will gain the academic expertise through didactic coursework at Stony Brook University plus the clinical expertise of Mount Sinai, a national leader in radiation oncology and medical education. Students will hone the skills that are required to serve our patients in the community while maintaining ethical standards and professionalism in and out of the clinic. Our program offers a bachelor’s degree in health science through Stony Brook University, followed by a 12 month post-baccalaureate clinical year through the Mount Sinai Health System. The total length of the program is five years: four years as a health science major and 12 months of clinical training (non-credit continuation of study at Mount Sinai). Upon completion of the undergraduate degree in health science, our students engage in clinical rotations throughout the Mount Sinai Health System where they are exposed to state of the art technology and learn to deliver a wide range of treatments including stereotactic body radiation therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery and intensity modulated radiation therapy. Wherever you are in your radiation therapy journey - or simply family and friends - we welcome you to our page! read more
