Registered in 2008, the Model United Nations Association Munich is an English-speaking student society focused on fostering i ... nternational understanding, promoting cultural and academic exchange as well as grappling with questions relating to international politics and the United Nations. Our goal is to promote the concept of Model United Nations amongst talented university students and to get them in touch with like-minded young people worldwide. Our society was founded in 2007 and has gathered more than 100 members since then. Furthermore, our activities focus on two central pillars among further smaller projects. The first is our so-called “delegation project”. Each year we prepare approximately 15 new members for MUN-conferences taking place globally. So far, our delegates have successfully participated at more than 40 national and international MUN conferences on five continents. These include the likes of the Harvard WorldMUN, the NMUN at the UN-headquarters in New York and EuroMUN in the city of Maastricht. Every year, applicants undergo a rigorous two-phase selection process before they become part of the new MUNAM delegation. This process allows us to maintain an equilibrium between high quality candidatures and our signature interdisciplinary approach, which we are very proud of. Currently, we boast members from nearly 20 faculties from both major universities in Munich, the majority of which stemming from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University. We then provide our delegates with academic training through means of our UN-seminar held by MUNAM alumni and external experts. The professional input is complemented by leadership seminars and classes for rhetorical performance practice. Furthermore, thanks to the many team-building activities, MUNAM provides the perfect environment to forge long-lasting friendships. Secondly, MUNAM is proud to host its own annual MUN conference – IsarMUN – each autumn. Starting out as a local event, IsarMUN has grown into an internationally renowned conference with more than 200 participants attending each edition. This November, we’ll be celebrating the 11th edition and are looking forward to welcoming a record number of participants to the Bavarian capital. In the near future, we seek to expand our activities with the introduction of a third pillar – volunteer work in collaboration an organ of the United Nations, UNICEF. In doing so, we hope to add a bottom-up approach to the problem solving skills acquired through debate and the study of current affairs at the conferences we attend.
