20 years of engagement in developing computer systems was really a blink in an eye for me. During that time period, I indeed ... have experienced a lot of changes in the computer industry. From the general-purpose-machine, unix machine, to the personal computer, there was always one “protagonist” which replaced another with the times. Speaking of computer systems, a distributed system model has replaced the centralized system model. Email via LAN, groupware, internet, the major tool in the industry has always replaced by another as the time went by. Until now, a vast array of systems has been created by taking advantage of WWW. However, no matter which era you live in, or how developed the computers are, the key essence of a “development” always has been the sophisticating human resources. How many people can we educate who are capable of large contributions to society? How can we pull out their comprehensive strength for our customers? The answers to those questions should be the key to be successful. What we can do is, taking these day-to-day improving systems into account, bringing up ideas that reflect customers’ performance systems, and finally demonstrating them.
