ManyHands Community is a dynamic not for profit organization. Beginning Goal: Establish a multi-service n-f-p organization that utilizes existing structures and resources, and develops community collaborations to enhance educational programming in Eugene. One such program arm is the development of Many Hands Community Native American Leadership Institute of Oregon. MHCNALIO is envisioned as a year-round program involving children, parents, & community members in education & multi-cultural programs, recreation, community improvement, & service learning activities. Many Hands Community is assembling a collaboration of professionals & policy-makers in Indian Ed, local school districts in Eugene, and institutions of higher learning in order to create a school for youth. A high priority at our school is to improve the tragically low graduation rate among Native American youth. While a high school diploma is admirable, our goals are much higher. Many Hands Community Native American Leadership Institute of Oregon goal is to incorporate wellness & healthy life practices, community service, and an appreciation of cultural history & values into balance with Oregon graduation requirements. We believe these young people will make a difference for our tribes & people, and we understand what must be done to equip them for this calling. We are working on a curriculum that includes project-based learning through traditional skills, Native language instruction & state standards with the goal of nurturing the whole child.
