Since 1930, our family has been baking quality products for dessert lovers like you. Our story begins with my father-in-law, ... John Slove, being hired to work as an apprentice in a Chicago bakery. While there he learned everything there is to know about baking. Then, in 1946, he and my mother-in-law, Grace, opened their own bakery on Diversey Avenue in Chicago – Slove Bakery. Their goal was to produce great quality desserts and provide excellent customer service: he did the baking; she the hand shaking. Through hard work and determination they grew the business and the bakery’s reputation as one of the finest in the Chicagoland area. Eight years later Grace discovered she also had a bun in the oven – my future husband, Ken. In recognition of his birth, they changed the name of the store to Slove and Son Bakery. It turned out to be prophetic. In time Ken, too, would become a master baker. Flash forward about 19 years, Ken and I were married and took over the family business after John and Grace passed. The store had moved to Lindenhurst and was now named Slove’s Country Charm. Ken handled the baking, while I learned the art of customer service. In 1989 we moved the store to our current location in Round Lake Beach and coined the term Cakery, which is the short story of how Lovin Oven Cakery was born. In 2017, we purchased and renovated the 40,000 square foot store in Antioch, creating the new headquarter where everything is baked today.
