LewesLight is a Festival of Light celebrating culture, history and the environment in and around Lewes and the South Downs th ... rough the medium of light and lighting, art and design. Conceived as part of the UNESCO International Year of Light in 2015 it is a community orientated event supported by professional lighting designers, artists and makers. The festival sets out to promote the town, its local economy and its history through a combination of art, design, science, engineering and social science and how these disciplines come together to enable and contribute to creativity and a sense of place. The festival is a free event open to all. Through the creation of exciting and dramatic installations the festival revisits and reconnects with historic locations -both visible and long since lost, it investigates public space, architecture and the environment - in particular within the context of Lewes' location within the Dark Skies Reserve of the South Down National Park. read more
