The Estate is popular with film makers and the House has been used for TV, feature films and photoshoots. The gardens surrounding the House were redesigned by Sir Edwin Lutyens and are planted for interest throughout the season. The romantic exterior of Knebworth House with its turrets, domes and gargoyles silhouetted against the sky does little to prepare the visitor for what to expect inside. The Victorian decoration covers a red brick house dating back to the Tudor times. The House has been home to the Lytton family for more than 500 years entertaining Elizabeth 1 for a visit in 1571. Today, more than 100,000 visitors come to Knebworth each year to enjoy the House, Gardens, Park and the varied events held throughout the season.
