Energy and Environment As a traditional manufacturer and supplier of machinery and equipment for the ship-building industry, ... present-day KGW Schweriner Maschinen- und Anlagenbau GmbH took steps to explore new market segments after the reunification of Germany. In this connection, the company remembered the capability of processing steel and metal and started to build up a second field of production besides the traditional product range for the shipbuilding sector. Subsequently, the first contacts to manufacturers of wind power plants were established in 1992. The building of tubular steel towers and/or power houses was downright the thing which fitted into the company's profile since such products are similar to the crane towers of the shipbuilding program.
