The Israeli Symphony Orchestra Rishon Lezion was founded in 1988 by the Rishon Lezion Municipality and is the largest and mos ... t prominent artistic body in the city. Since 1989 the Orchestra has been operating as the Israeli Opera Orchestra. The orchestra has positioned itself at the top of the artistic pyramid in Israel as a leading musical renowned body. The Orchestra's qualities have led to its high reputation as an international level orchestra, both as an opera orchestra and as an independent symphony orchestra. In October 2018, the orchestra held a successful concert tour in Mexico. The tour was preceded by additional tours in China and a concert tour in Argentina, Brazil and other countries in South America, each of which was a great success and led to additional tours around the world. The orchestra plays under the baton of many well-known conductors including Dan Ettinger, Daniel Oren, Asher Fisch, Michael Boder, Mikhail Yurovsky, Benjamin Walfish, Karl-Heinz Steffens, David Glasummer, Christian Zacharias, Daniel Boico, Evan Alexis Christ, Vladimir Spivakov, Enrique Arturo Diemecke, John Axelrod and Gianluca Marciano. A few of the soloists who have played with the orchestra include world-renowned musicians such as: David Garrett, Shlomo Mintz, Daniil Trifonov, Alexander Korsantia, Sergei Nakariakov, Misha Maisky, Alexandra Sum, Sharon Kam, Alexei Volodin. The first Musical Director was Shimon Cohen. His successors were Noam Sharif, Asher Fish, the late Mandy Rodan, Dan Ettinger and James Judd.
