The Illinois Public Health Association (IPHA) AmeriCorps program is a State AmeriCorps program that works to strengthen the f ... ield of public health through the development of skilled and committed leaders. The IPHA AmeriCorps program serves as a valuable opportunity to mentor individuals into the field of public health and human services. Members who serve in the program receive extensive orientation, mentoring, and guidance in exploring the public health field as a career – and potentially working within Illinois communities. Since 1994, more than 75,000 men and women have served each year in AmeriCorps, providing needed assistance to millions of Americans to meet critical needs in education, public safety, health, homeland security, and the environment. AmeriCorps members serve through nonprofits, public agencies, and faith-based organizations, helping to build a culture of citizenship, service, and responsibility. After successful completion of their term of service, AmeriCorps members earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award that can be used to pay for college or graduate school at Title IV schools, or to repay qualified student loans.
