The Indexing Society of Canada / Société canadienne d’indexation (ISC/SCI) is Canada’s national association of indexers. Our ... members are the people who write the indexes for the back of books, websites, ebooks, contracts, documents, reports, audio, video...in short, any information in any medium. ISC/SCI members work in a wide range of subject areas. Many indexers also have a wide variety of skills, including cataloguing, fact checking, glossary writing, HTML encoding, project management, teaching, thesaurus construction, and abstracting. Established in 1977 as the Indexing and Abstracting Society of Canada / Société canadienne pour l’analyse de documents (IASC/SCAD), we changed our name in 2006 to reflect the fact that indexing is the major specialty of our members. Our mission is to encourage the production of indexes, to promote the employment of indexers, to make available information about indexing techniques and best practices, to encourage the ongoing professional development of indexers and to facilitate communication between indexers.
