Since 1948 the hr as a founding member of the ARD (Association of Public Broadcasting Corporations in the Federal Republic of Germany) has been the public broadcaster in and for Hesse. There are hr-studios in Kassel, Fulda, Gießen, Wiesbaden and Darmstadt and additional correspondent offices in all regions of Hesse. With around 1,730 employees and around 880 permanent freelancers, hr is an important economic factor, especially for the Rhine-Main region. Six radio programs - hr1, hr2-kultur, hr3, hr4, hr-iNFO and YOU FM - as well as hr-fernsehen offer a diverse program around the clock. With its TV, radio and online offerings, Hessischer Rundfunk also participates in the ARD community programs.
