We are "Hometown Proud" When you step inside Hegedorn’s grocery store, it is easy to see that the business is all about famil ... y. The Hegedorn family has been selling food on The Ridge since Bruce’s father, Clifford, opened a dairy store at the family farm in 1936. In 1953, Bruce and Mary Hegedorn opened a 2,000 square foot food market. Bruce’s original business premise was to provide great value to his customers through competitive pricing, top quality, wide selection and great service. To this day, we still carry our customers’ orders out to their cars and provide great service throughout our store. Hegedorn’s simple corner store has come a long way. In 1958, Bruce added 5,000 square feet and in 1963, added 10,000 more. The biggest expansion in 1968, added another 28,000 and the store is now 45,000 square feet, complete with a basement of an additional 50,000 square feet. Now with almost 200 employees, over half of them part-time and over one dozen managers, Hegedorn’s considers its employees among the store’s greatest assets. We rely on knowledgeable, engaged and enthusiastic employees. We employ people who are friendly and helpful throughout the market to carry out Bruce’s original mission statement – great prices, exceptional quality and variety combined with superb neighborly service. “Hometown Proud” declares the sign out front, as does the walkway into the store. Hegedorn’s backs this up through involvement in just about every community organization in town. Whether it’s selling tickets for a high school production, sponsoring sports teams or collecting food for the Webster Community Chest, community support is actively embraced. Today, Hegedorn’s is a modern grocery store. We have held onto our customer base by staying in step with the times, paying attention to customer service and by actively showcasing our hometown credentials. read more
