Learning from professionals in the field, students learn to communicate visually an idea through a photograph. The program provides opportunities, not only for a high level of technical training and skills needed to do quality photography, but also to help the student become a successful freelancer, business person, or a highly valued employee. Photographers usually specialize in an area such as: Portraiture: Formal portraits including school and senior portraits, environmental portraits, fashion, and pet portraits; photographs taken on location such as weddings and religious ceremonies Commercial and industrial: Photographs of objects such as models, merchandise, buildings, and landscapes, to be used in media such as advertisements, catalogs e-commerce, and websites Visual journalism/ storytelling: Photographs, video, and multimedia capture of newsworthy people and places as well as sporting, political, and community events for news media or the internet Fine art: Photographs with artistic talent and creativity sold as fine artwork Many types of organizations hire photographers as full-time or part-time employees as well as freelancers. More than half of all photographers are self-employed photographers, who build their businesses over time. The skills acquired in the program help students become professional photographers.
