The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway is a heritage railway operating steam and heritage diesel trains over 15 miles betwe ... en Cheltenham Racecourse in the South and Broadway in the North. The headquarters are at Toddington which has been the company's operating base since 1981. The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway plc (GWSR) operates the railway, which is owned by its shareholders. The Company trades as Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway (GWR). The GWR runs along a part of the former Great Western Railway's mainline from Birmingham to Cheltenham, via Stratford-upon-Avon. The line commands wonderful views of the sleepy hamlets and villages, as it runs though the beautiful Cotswold countryside. Since 1981, the line has gradually been extended to the current length, the most recent stage being the reopening of Broadway station on 30th March 2018 which brought trains back after 58 years. Most of the work has been completed by volunteers, with revenue generated from our operations, shareholder capital and grants from GWRT. The GWR is supported by The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway Trust (GWRT) who are a Registered Charity. The aim of GWRT is ‘to maintain and develop a railway museum for the benefit of the public, buffer stop to buffer stop, fence to fence’. GWRT does not own any infrastructure or operate any trains but they do engage in a range of fundraising activities. The available funds of GWRT are used to support the maintenance and development of the GWR; Anyone can become a member of GWRT on payment of an annual (or life) subscription; Many members of the GWRT are also shareholders of GWSR PLC. Membership is an essential part of the success of the GWR; there are good membership benefits including an excellent, full-colour quarterly magazine. So if you want to help the GWR, JOIN US! Please read more about the GWR on our Website www.gwsr.com The GWRT Website is www.gwrt.org.uk for membership and fundraising (donations and legacies) read more
