Il GISM è stato costituito nel mese di Ottobre 2014 da 53 Soci Fondatori, nella maggior parte Ricercatori delle più important ... i Università e Associazioni di Ricerca Italiane. Attualmente conta vari Soci Ordinari, Onorari e Sostenitori. La principale finalità del GISM è la promozione dello scambio di informazioni tra ricercatori che operano nel campo delle cellule staminali mesenchimali, dando particolare enfasi alla loro applicazione clinica.
