At 11pm on January 4th, after lengthy discussions with the administrators, Dawn Offland and David Offland purchased the business as a going concern including the assets, trade name and goodwill. Trading in the new company commenced on Friday 5th January 2018. Dawn said “it was important that the new company retained the trade name of Float Glass Industries which is a well-known brand within the glass industry. Also the family has been involved in the glass industry for over 100 years, employing skilled glass workers from the local area. It was therefore important to us to try and secure the business going forward”. In a statement Kerry Bailey, BDO business restructuring partner, said: "The business was exposed to difficulties as a result of the challenging economic climate and difficult trading conditions. Principally, I am delighted that 149 jobs have been saved with the transfer of staff to the purchaser. Our focus now is to seek to maximise recoveries to creditors.” Speaking to Glass Times Magazine, David said that 2017 had been a difficult period, but he was positive about the future of the company and wanted to thank all those in the industry who are offering their support going forward.
