Welcome to The First Church of Deerfield, cited by a visitor turned newcomer as "the most welcoming church I've ever been to! ... " We do our best to reflect God's inclusive vision for humanity and are proudly an Open and Affirming Congregation. We enjoy each other and our church, and invite you to join us. The congregation is made up of people from assorted religious backgrounds. Our theology is moderate to liberal, based solidly in the traditions of our two denominations, the United Church of Christ and the Unitarian Universalist Association. As our church covenant states, "we cordially invite to our fellowship any who, while differing from us in belief, are willing to unite with us for worship and service . . . ." Our worship service is at 10:00 A.M. Sundays. Note: entering through the front doors, you will be facing the congregation, which can be disconcerting the first visit. Pews are not "assigned" and you are invited to sit anywhere. The children join us for the early part of the service, then recess to Sunday School. Though there is no nursery, due to our architectural limitations, a changing table is available on the second floor. The service lasts an hour, following a traditional Protestant order of service; use this link to view an Order of Worship. The service is followed by fellowship and coffee served in the front hall. We receive frequent visitors, from tourists to the families of students in area schools to those who come to hear our organ. Whatever your reason for coming, we hope you have a good experience and will want to return. read more
