Part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of Housing, each year FHA helps more than a million homebuyers achieve the dream of sustainable, affordable homeownership of single family homes, while our insurance programs for multifamily properties support the availability of over 300,000 affordable rental units, including those for seniors and people with disabilities. FHA’s Healthcare insurance programs facilitate access to hospital medical care and assisted living in hundreds of communities across the country. The Office of Single Family Housing administers FHA’s mortgage insurance programs for mortgages secured by new or existing single family homes, condominium units, manufactured homes, and homes needing rehabilitation. The Office also administers FHA’s reverse mortgage program, the Home Equity Conversion Mortgage, for seniors. The Office of Multifamily Housing Programs administers FHA’s mortgage insurance programs that facilitate the construction, substantial rehabilitation, purchase, and refinancing of multifamily properties. The Office also administers subsidized housing programs that provide rental assistance to low-income families, the elderly, and those with disabilities, as well as the preservation and recapitalization of assisted affordable housing through such programs as the Rental Assistance Demonstration.
