EIRA (Enabling Innovation: Research to Application) is a collaborative project that harnesses the expertise of seven universi ... ties and colleges in the East of England. Backed by £4.7 million of Research England’s Connecting Capability Fund, EIRA started in April 2018 and runs until March 2021. EIRA provides businesses access to academic expertise, consultancy, specialist facilities and funding opportunities. It boosts innovation across three key areas: artificial intelligence, biotechnology and digital creative, which are growing areas for the region. EIRA increases growth and productivity by transforming the way businesses connect with universities and colleges through knowledge exchange and more. The network is led by the University of Essex and other Eastern ARC partners: the University of East Anglia and the University of Kent. The network also comprises the University of Suffolk, Harlow College, Norwich University of the Arts and Writtle University College. EIRA is further supported by business partners BT Group, TechEast and AgriTech East, Digital Catapult, New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership (NALEP) and South East Local Enterprise Partnership (SELEP). EIRA engages businesses of all sizes with academic expertise through Innovation Vouchers, Research and Development Grants, i-Teams, Hothouse and other events, Start-up Microfinance and Innovation Internships.
