Passionately referred to by the people of Devon and the Devon Blood Bikes, founded in 2009 by @Daniel Roe-Lavery; the charity is operated entirely by volunteers, and provides a free service 24/7 to the NHS, GP Surgeries, Air Ambulances and their patients. The services provided include the free transport of blood samples for testing, blood for transfusion, donor breast milk to the Neonatal Intensive Care Units, patient notes and medications direct to the patients home in the case of urgent need. The charity is proud to be ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified for Quality and Health & Safety (August 2021). As part of the application and induction process, every volunteer is checked against the Disclosure and Barring Service and undergoes advanced rider training before being given consent to use the charity's marked blood bikes, along with a full suite of mandatory training which includes Safeguarding, Manual Handling, Disability Awareness, First Aid and GDPR. The charity does not receive any government funding or any payments from the NHS for the services the volunteers provide, and relies totally on public donations and corporate support to maintain its life saving services.
