The German Cancer Society e. V. (DKG) based in Berlin - a successor organization to the "Comité for Cancer Collection Researc ... h" founded in 1900 - is the largest scientific and oncological society in Germany. The more than 8,000 individual members in 25 working groups, the 16 regional cancer societies and 36 supporting members are active in the complex field of oncology. The DKG is committed to cancer care based on evidence-based medicine, interdisciplinarity and consistent quality standards. It focuses primarily on - the certification of centers for oncological treatment, - the creation of evidence-based treatment guidelines and patient guidelines in the oncology guideline program, - knowledge development and knowledge transfer, - the improvement of information for patients. The DKG is one of the co-initiators of the National Cancer Plan, which the Federal Ministry of Health launched in 2008.
