Amy Palmer, Director General of the Justice Department Our Mission Desert Stars is building a generation of Bedouin leaders to promote a thriving Bedouin community and a strong Israeli society. We empower young Bedouin to realize their individual and collective potential as change-making leaders. he majority of Negev Bedouin live in poverty, leaving many young Bedouin without access to adequate nutrition, a good education, or quality employment. 29% of young Bedouin drop out of high school and just 8% begin studies in higher education. Only 22% of women and 60% of men hold jobs. Today, tribal systems dictate Bedouin community life. Neighborhoods and schools are segregated by tribe, while tribal forces control administrative appointments, the distribution of resources, and children's education. As a result, there is no unified leadership able to heal and advance the entire community. In 2013, Desert Stars was founded by a Bedouin mayor and Jewish entrepreneur who believed in the power of community-led leadership.
