CSTEM (Communication, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) supports the engagement of Pre K-12th grade students ... in hands-on, project-based learning experiences that expose them to workforce opportunities in related areas of CSTEM. Annually, the CSTEM Challenge program directly impacts over 3,000 students. The students are identified by their CSTEM teacher to participate in the program. The students participate in a rigorous curriculum that engages them in real-world problem-solving in areas of robotics, green, geographical information systems (GIS), creative writing, visual arts, video animation, social media, and a STEM quiz bowl. The students are required to participate in all challenge categories, providing them with an integrated STEM learning experience. The teachers are required to participate in 24 hours of professional development. The selection criteria for schools to participate in the CSTEM program is that over 50% of their student population is representative of underserved and/or underrepresented students in STEM fields.
