On October 14th 2019, the project “Green Chemical Engineering Network towards upscaling sustainable processes - GREENERING”, ... had its kick-off meeting in Brussels. With over 170 participants from 35 countries, and part of the program COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology - the oldest tool to foster cooperation among researchers from various European countries), Ana Rita Duarte from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of NOVA University of Lisbon, was elected as coordinating Chair. GREENERING has the objective to promote and boost the industrial application of green chemistry and sustainable technologies, developing the tools for the scale-up and implementation of emerging processes in the industry. GREENERING is focused on the four major factors that contribute for the faster growth of green chemistry: Collaboration, Technology Forcing, Compromise and Enhanced Education. GREENERING will consist of conferences, seminars, summer schools, practical courses mentoring towards funding and commercialization, student/researcher mobility, facilitating the creation of new start-up companies and reinforced implementation of green technologies at the industrial level. These activities will be a driving force for creating consumer awareness and influence on governmental regulations. Four working groups have been created and are already working on various tasks: 1) Opportunities for implementation of green process at industrial scale, 2) Development of entrepreneurial skills, 3) Education and Mobility, and 4) Impact. The main goal will be to provide opportunities for implementation of green processes at industrial scale - identification of target industries, analysis of patent portfolio, “industry friendly” training, scale-up assessment and tools, development of entrepreneurial skills, workshops and training schools. read more
