The CORUS-XUAM project will define and test the U-space services, capabilities and solutions required for Urban Air Mobility ... (UAM) to operate safely and efficiently. CORUS-XUAM is a very large demonstration (VLD) project that will carry out various tests in 7 locations across Europe using expertise and know-how of players in air traffic management (ATM), unmanned aircraft and UAM to define the importance of U-space solutions for integrated operations requiring mutual traffic situational awareness, and UAM as a sustainable solution for moving people and packages in urban and busy airspaces. With a focus on safety, efficiency and socio-environmental sustainability, CORUS-XUAM will explore U-space procedures and services that support Urban Air Mobility with findings consolidated into the Concept of Operations. Closely collaborating with the U-space stakeholders, the project will address the integration of drones into airspaces currently used by manned aircraft (Very Low Level and above), refining and identifying new U3/U4 services. The demonstrations will combine manned aviation and unmanned aircraft both large and small, including passenger-carrying flights, vertical and conventional take-off, and all of them electric. These will occur in urban, suburban and rural areas, as well as in uncontrolled and controlled airspaces such as airports and ports. They will conduct a variety of missions such as passenger transport, logistics, delivery, emergency response and surveillance. CORUS-XUAM combines the latest research and technology to expand on the original ConOps to produce best-practices based on experience and expertise from the relevant fields, in 7 different locations throughout Europe and via diverse use cases. This project has received funding from the SESAR Joint Undertaking under grant agreement No. 101017682. The JU receives support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and the SESAR JU members other than the Union. read more
