The NIHR Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC) East Midlands, led by Professor Kamlesh Kh ... unti, brings together a collaboration of local providers and commissioners of NHS services, universities, industry and other relevant organisations. It leads applied health research across the region, translating research findings into improved outcomes for patients. The programme, led by world-class researchers, was developed through extensive consultation with our partners and the public. Following a successful five year pilot, the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) awarded funding to 13 Collaborations for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRCs) across England. CLAHRC East Midlands will receive £28 million in funding for a period of five years (2013-18). It will improve patient outcomes by conducting research of local relevance and international quality into five main areas: - preventing chronic disease - managing chronic disease - caring for older people and stroke survivors - enhancing mental health - implementing evidence and improvement CLAHRC East Midlands will build on the achievements of the CLAHRCs for Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland and Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire (NDL) in bringing together health providers, commissioners, patient groups, health and research networks, life science industries and academic institutions to support the NHS to meet local priorities. The legacy of CLAHRCs NDL and LNR is a wealth of expertise in prevention and management of chronic disease, public and mental health, and implementation and improvement science.
