Through CAP’s Congressionally chartered missions of Emergency Services, Aerospace Education, and Cadet Programs, CAP members are actively engaged in a variety of activities in the New York City area and we have fun doing it. Emergency Services: CAP is responsible for over 90% of all search and rescue of downed aircraft in the continental US. We also perform search and rescue activity for missing persons. Adult officers and cadets 18 years and older, fulfill the roles of mission pilots, observers, scanners and ground team members in responding to these missions. CAP also responds to emergencies and natural disasters in coordination with national, state and local agencies. Aerospace Education: CAP is committed to developing interest in civilian aviation and providing aerospace education to its members and our local communities. CAP aerospace education programs communicate the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of aviation and space exploration and how they impact our society. Aerospace education is reflected throughout the senior member and cadet programs, and is a theme in weekly meetings as well as a requirement for member advancement. Cadet Programs: CAP cadets are 12 to 18 years old, and participate in leadership training, character development, drill instruction, aircraft and glider orientation flights, aerospace-themed field trips, summer encampments and national cadet special activities.
