Forty Under 40 was founded in 2007, under the Central Illinois Business brand, which is owned and operated by News-Gazette Me ... dia. This award recognizes young professionals in the Champaign-Urbana area for their achievements, experience, innovation, leadership and community involvement. Winners, as well as the Woman and Man of the Year, are chosen by an independent panel of judges from nominations sent in by the community. Nominations are accepted through the beginning of summer, with a panel of judges deciding on winners by July. A formal reception, honoring all winners, is held in September at the Champaign-Urbana Hilton Garden Inn followed by the fall issue of Central Illinois Business showcasing all winners.
