Chicago Teen Mentors is a free tutoring service initiated by Chicago Public School (CPS) students. The organization, now oper ... ating with a board of directors, pairs CPS 3rd to 10th grade students with CPS high school students to provide weekly one-on-one reading and/or math tutoring. The program began in February, with 20 tutors commuting to tutor in-person at two CPS elementary schools. When CPS adopted remote learning, CTM transitioned to tutor over Zoom. Since its inception in February, CTM has worked with over 830 students (tutors and tutees) to provide affordable educational resources to Chicago students. In addition to providing tutoring services, the youth-led organization has reached 420 students with their outreach events; CTM hosted a school supply drive, three high school discussion panels, and a coding lesson. In the future, CTM will host STEM workshops, a book drive, and another school supply drive. read more
