The Caulfield Returned Soldiers and Sailors Club was formed in 1916 by men who were in the first wave of returnee's from the ... Gallipoli campaign, they were concerned about their rights and prospects as many of them had been wounded and efectively been put on the scrap heap by the Army and Government. In 1919 it became affiliated with the RSSILA (Returned Soldiers Sailors Imperial League of Australia). Over time this name has shortened to become the RSL. The club has a proud history in preserving the rights and assisting in the care of Ex Service personnel. The founding members were part of setting up the Legacy Organisation, including proving its first President (Sam Cohen). and sponsoring legislation for the development of retirement villages and homes and hostels for ex-service men and women and their dependants. In later years the emphasis has been on providing a facility where members and guests can enjoy themselves. Our venue has gaming machines, a TAB outlet, dining room and provides first class entertainment via the "Flying Saucer Club" . Welfare and commemoration are still our main aim, and we do this via services for ANZAC Day and Remembrance day, as well hospital visitations and bringing senior citizens into the club for meals. read more
