Calvert Advanced Life Support is the sole advanced life support asset providing 100% volunteer emergency medical services to ... the citizens of Calvert County, Maryland. Calvert County is a small 219 square mile peninsula located 35 miles southeast of the District of Columbia, 25 miles south of Annapolis, and 55miles south of Baltimore. It lays between the Patuxent River to the west and the Chesapeake Bay to the east. Calvert County is home to over 88,000 residents and has two high risk industrial facilities; the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant operated by Constellation Energy and the Cove Point Liquid Natural Gas transfer terminal operated by Dominion. To accompany the water recreation and facilities Calvert also has approximately 20 miles of cliff that border the water. Calvert Advanced Life Support is one of 9 departments providing fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to the community through the tired response in partnership with seven departments providing basic life support and transport units. The department utilizes five advanced life support chase units and responds with 14 basic life support units from other departments that carry additional advanced life support gear to respond to 5,000 calls for service a year.
