Early Intervention is a public program funded by the New York State and county, for infants and toddlers under three years of age who may not be making progress like other children because of a developmental delay or disability. A disability means that a child has a diagnosed physical or mental condition that can or may lead to developmental issues. These include but not limited to: Autism, Down Syndrome, motor disorders, vision or hearing problems. A Developmental delay means the child is behind in some area of development, such as growth, learning or communication. Children who are diagnosed with above listing are eligible for (EIP) Early Intervention Program. Children with no diagnosis, who experience delays in development may also be eligible for the (EIP). If you are a parent and have concerns regarding your child development, you may refer your child to the local Early Intervention Program (EIP) where your child resides. All children must be referred to the municipality to access Early Intervention Program Services. Someone else can help you make the referral to the Early Intervention Program if you wish.
