With breakbeatcode, we bring together professionals in the music and tech industries, including singers, rappers, DJs, producers, entrepreneurs and tech coaches, to inspire and teach students the skills, habits and mindset they will need to pursue their dreams while creating opportunities to build their social capital. breakbeatcode works with organizations that support underserved communities to offer the free breakbeatcode curriculum, teacher training and virtual hackathons. The program is supported by over 50 volunteers within Google and in the broader tech and music industries. breakbeatcode Curriculum: We teach coding to middle- and high-school students through beat making and music creation. Students will learn how to build their own beats through writing code. No prior coding knowledge or experience is required. Students will be learning Python, the most popular programming language in the world, and a key skill for many job opportunities in tech, including data science and machine learning. breakbeatcode Teacher Training: We work directly with organizations in underserved communities to teach their teachers the free breakbeatcode curriculum so they can incorporate it into their program. We provide free virtual, instructor-led training, and we enable teachers to take the content and make it their own. breakbeatcode Hackathons: A breakbeatcode Hackathon is a free, online, half-day virtual event co-hosted by our breakbeatcode team and our partner organizations. During the Hackathon, tech coach volunteers from Google will provide an introduction to the breakbeatcode curriculum. No prior coding knowledge or experience is required. By the end of the hackathon, students will have started to build a foundation in coding skills and music theory, and they will have published their first music tracks. read more
