The Department of Engineering provides the perfect setting for practical work with modern day teaching and learning facilities. We pride ourselves on equipping our students with the skill set that they need not only working on industry standard equipment, but having industrial links, which set them up perfectly for a career in engineering. We are currently undertaking a £340 million investment programme in our facilities, including a major expansion of our City Centre Campus. As part of this, our facilities in Millennium Point have undergone a £6.5 million investment to include a new maker area, engineering labs and equipment. The West Midlands is the home to major manufacturing businesses including MG and Jaguar Land Rover. We’re proud of our links with industry which has helped our students find placement opportunities at companies such as Jaguar Land Rover. Every year our engineering students take part in the Formula Student event that is run by the IMechE at Silverstone. This project requires students to design, plan and build an impressive single seater race car to compete against other universities! HS2 is located opposite our City Centre Campus and will positively impact the way the city is developing by connecting other major cities - boosting the city’s workforce. Plus, it will minimise a commuter’s journey time going to and from Birmingham – it’s an estimated 49 minutes to travel from Birmingham to London.
