The aging of the population and the focus on health issues will increase the demand for better medical devices and equipment designed by bioengineers and the employment opportunities for bioengineers are expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations (27%, source: US Dept of Labor, Occupational Outlook Handbook) from 2012-22. Combined with a growing job market and financial rewards, bioengineers have the gratification that comes from working to meet the needs of society.
