In 1977, the Big Eight Council was formally created by the University of Missouri students when Black students from the Big E ... ight Conference came together in recognition that they were suffering similar problems. In 1997, the Big Eight Council officially changed their name to the Big XII Council on Black Student Government and expanded to include four Texas schools into the structure of the organization.
