The Bay Area Environmental Research Institute is a California 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation. Established in 1993 BAER Institu ... te has grown from two employees to over 50 employees at the present time. Since its founding, BAER Institute has been guided by a fundamental commitment to original research. We have received numerous grants and contracts with NASA and other federal and state agencies for scientific research. BAER Institute's areas of expertise include the general areas of biology, chemistry and physics. Specific projects range in scale from the study of microbes and how they develop in primitive atmospheric conditions to utilizing satellite data to monitor and understand the Earth and Martian atmospheres and to searching the universe for planets. Currently, many of BAER Institute's scientists work in conjunction with scientists at the NASA Ames Research Center. In addition, BAER Institute researchers have worked with number of federal agencies (such as the Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation) and national laboratories (such as the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Lawrence Berkeley and Lawrence Livermore Laboratories, National Center for Atmospheric Research).
