Ballerup Martial Arts Center was found as Ballerup Taekwondo Club in 1974. It was the first taekwondo club on Zealand and 1 y ... ear later it had affiliates in 6 cities (Ballerup, Skovlunde, Herlev, Albertslund, Måløv, Ølstykke) in the Copenhagen Area. The club is a non-profit association run by volunteers. Among them some fiery souls who are motivated toward the vision of making the best taekwondo club in Denmark. The training takes place in the club's own facilities where also floor ball and fitness training is possible. The training in all-round so that the students learn all aspects within taekwondo and martial arts in general. Therefore the students will meet e.g. self-defense techniques that has its origin in maybe aikido and jiu-jitsu. The club participates in national and international tournaments with both beginner students and top athletes. Many students, of whom the youngest were 12 years old, have won the Danish championship. National team members from the club have won the European Championship many times as well as Korean Open and many other international championships. Also 2nd place at US Open and 4th place at the World Championship. The club is known for its high level standard, which is one of the reasons for the many gold medals. Ballerup dominated the sparring tournaments until the mid 1980's. When the technical disciplines became popular in the late 1990's Ballerup became one of the leading clubs at technical tournaments.
