The Association of Black Social Workers New York City is a non-profit organization founded in response to racist policies in ... the larger mainstream social work organizations. Founded in 1967, our chapter is the cornerstone of social activism in NYC. Notable projects include but are not limited to: The Adoption Center and the ABSW Senior Center both founded in 1975 current community education initiatives include voter registration, mental health workshops, and community breakfast forums. We've given a number of presentations on Domestic Violence, Post Traumatic Slavery Syndrome, Reentry to the community after Incarceration, medical illnesses and other health issues, public school educational issues, eating disorders, May's Mental Health Month and uplifting the Black LGBT community read more
