Art, Technology, Society – and in the center, we humans. This is how it all started: With the "Festival for Art, Technology, ... and Society" on Sept. 18th 1979 in Linz, Austria. Twenty artists and scientists gathered from all over the world to discuss the Digital Revolution and its possible consequences. The opening speech was delivered by the SPA 12 robot flown in from the USA. And out of the first Festival, our organization ARS ELECTRONICA was born. Our activities are guided by the question of what new technologies mean for our lives. Together with artists, scientists, developers, designers, entrepreneurs, and activists, we shed light on current developments in our digital society and speculate about their manifestations in the future. Through the lens of art, we ask what technology SHOULD DO for us, not what it can do. read more
