In 2018, proprietors Jen & Joe Wegrzyn introduced their first fast-casual concept, AKtakeaway, in Detroit's financial district. Offering "Old World traditions in a New World way," AKtakeaway provides healthy, convenient lunch to Detroit professionals, and at a great value! In late 2019, Anita's Kitchen opened its doors in downtown Lake Orion. The two-floor historic building dating back to the late 1800’s has been the perfect home for both the fast casual AKtakeaway concept (downstairs), and the relaxed, full service atmosphere of Anita’s Kitchen (upstairs). Just two months after the opening of the Lake Orion restaurant, Anita's Kitchen/ AKtakeaway debuted at DTW (Detroit Metro Airport). The addition of Anita’s Kitchen at DTW is part of a larger effort on behalf of partner company HMS Host to provide healthier airport dining options, with an emphasis on local Michigan businesses.
