AMA Plaza (formerly 330 N. Wabash and IBM Plaza also known as IBM Building) is a skyscraper in downtown Chicago, Illinois, Un ... ited States, at 330 N. Wabash Avenue, designed by famed architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. A small bust of the architect by sculptor Marino Marini is displayed in the lobby. The 52-story building is situated on a plaza overlooking the Chicago River. At 695 feet (211.8 meters), 330 North Wabash is the second-tallest building by Mies van der Rohe, the tallest being the Toronto-Dominion Bank Tower at Toronto-Dominion Centre. It was his last American building. AMA Plaza was declared a Chicago Landmark on February 6, 2008 and added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 26, 2010. It is also the newest building in terms of age on both historic lists. In 2007, plans were announced to convert floors two through thirteen into a high-end hotel. The Langham, Chicago opened in July 2013. AMA Plaza has completed a multi-million dollar redevelopment which includes state-of-the-art HVAC systems, fire/life safety systems, elevator modernization and interior cab renovation, new toilet rooms and multi-tenant corridor upgrades. A state of the art fitness center, conference room, and cafe were added as amenities to all tenants of the building. The building is LEED Gold Certified; EnergyStar rated; is a BOMA 360 Performance Building; and is certified with the Society of Environmentally Responsible Facilities. The American Medical Association moved its headquarters to the building in September 2013 and the building was renamed AMA Plaza. Other notable tenants include the SmithBucklin, Perkins and Will's founding/largest office, Swanson, Martin & Bell, and several other prestigious firms. Latham & Watkins, a major international law firm will move into the building in April of 2014. read more
