Allegrini is the leading producer in the Valpolicella Classica area and one of the most highly acclaimed wineries in Italy an ... d throughout the world. The family’s roots in Valpolicella date back to the 16th century. Today the winery consists of 150 hectares, set amongst the rolling hills of the ‘Classica’ appellation. All wines produced under the Allegrini label are produced exclusively from these estate vineyards. Through research and experimentation over the years, Allegrini has introduced radical innovations in the vineyards, in the grape drying process and in the cellar, with the objective of enhancing the intrinsic quality of Valpolicella. An ability to keep abreast of market trends, together with the family’s desire to maximize their vineyards’ unique potential, has given rise to a range of soft, sensual wines such as Palazzo della Torre, La Grola, La Poja, and Amarone – all of which form part of the illustrious history of Valpolicella Classica. In 2001, Marilisa Allegrini and her brother Walter, inspired by the desire to take on a new challenge beyond the confines of their beloved Valpolicella, fell in love with Bolgheri, its beauty and its great potential. Here at Poggio al Tesoro, their dream became a reality, in a vineyard that extends over more than 70 hectares between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the foothills of the Colline Metallifere. In 2007, Marilisa Allegrini chose San Polo, on the south-eastern side of Montalcino, in the area of Podernovi, as the height of her aspirations: at an altitude of 450 metres, with an ideal microclimate and fine sandy soil, it had everything she wanted. The estate extends for 22 hectares, 16 of which are planted with vines. Of these, 8 hectares are dedicated to the production of Brunello. In 2008, Allegrini acquired Villa Della Torre, located in Fumane di Valpolicella. Designed by the great artist and architect Giulio Romano, it is now a venue for cultural events and tantalising food and wine experiences. read more
