Alice is a social robot designed and co-developed by Deloitte and the VU University Amsterdam to support elderly, with the ai ... m to increase their level of independence and reduce feelings of loneliness, ultimate resulting in improving the quality of life of elderly. The quality of life of elderly can be positively influenced by Alice as she is able to function as a welfare companion. With Alice, elderly can connect with peers or caretakers, can be reminded of daily activities and can be socially entertained by for example playing music or telling the news upon request. Alice can also have a social function within a group as she is able to connect people with each other. Our aim is to create a healthcare ecosystem that leverages the potential of social robotics, artificial intelligence and the internet of things to actively and constantly discover the elders’ physical, social and cognitive needs. Social robot Alice has the potential to become the orchestrator of care, by monitoring patients and planning care accordingly, in a way that is truly relevant and meaningful.
