In the 1990s, AP&T successfully converted from 90% dependency on diesel-based generation of electricity to 75% clean, renewable energy in a period of 16 years, through development of new “low-impact” hydropower projects, providing its ratepayers with energy at a more affordable cost. The Company also owns and operates the largest utility-owned solar installation providing electricity in Alaska. AP&T’s conversion to renewables was accomplished in the absence of State, Federal, or local government requirements or mandates.
