The Akademischer Verein Darmstadt is a mixed, apolitical, modern student fraternity consisting of students and graduates of t ... he TU Darmstadt. The association was founded in January 1872 by a group of professors and students of the then "Polytechnische Schule" (later Technische Hochschule, today Technische Universität Darmstadt). The aim of the association was to represent the interests of the students, but also to promote scientific and social endeavours, which is also underlined by the motto "Vivat Academia - Vivant Professors". The Polytechnic Association in Karlsruhe served as a model. Every semester there is a new board of directors of the Aktivitas (students), which puts together a colourful programme of events.
