162 Regiment RLC combines the dual role of providing Postal and Courier, and Movement Control capability to the British Army ... in support of our paired Regular counterparts in 29 Regiment RLC and sits within 104 Logistic and Support Brigade. 162 Regiment RLC is the only reserve regiment in the British Army to provide a Postal and Courier, and Movement Control capability. Army Reserve soldiers (Reservists) get involved in everything that the Regular Army does - from combat to peacekeeping and humanitarian work. They can learn trade skills, professional qualifications, and can take advantage of the opportunities that Regular soldiers have - like adventurous training. They are paid for the time they spend training and the difference is that Reservists are not full-time soldiers - most of our Reservists have a day job. There are financial incentives for enlisting and meeting training targets, paid leave in lieu, earnings based pension scheme and annual bounty payment. Training is flexible and can fit around individuals civilian life. We ask Reservists to aim for a minimum 27 days a year training and working with us. Generally annual training is made up of one weekly evening training session, a 16 day continuous training exercise, and occasional weekends away on exercise or adventurous training which is planned in advance to earn the annual tax free "bounty". All Reservists learn soldiering skills, but can also develop leadership, personal discipline, planning, fitness, and more specialist skills - these could lead to gaining extra qualifications which count outside the Army Reserve too. Being regionally recruited, our reservists serve near where they live. Our Army Reserve centres are located in the North East, East Midlands and South and recruit within 50 miles of each location. Our reservists have assisted the regular Army in Cyprus, America, Canada, The Falklands, Germany, and Jordon to name a few, on short and long attachments. read more
